On September 29, Professor Kim Baldridge from the School of Pharmaceutical Science and Technology at Tianjin University received the 2018 Chinese Government Friendship Award.
The Chinese Government Friendship Award is the highest honor award for foreign experts who have made outstanding contributions to China’s modernization. A total of 50 foreign experts from 21 countries were awarded this year. It is worth mentioning that Kim Baldridge becomes the third foreign professor of TJU to receive this award since her husband, Professor Jay Siegel, dean of TJU’s School of Pharmaceutical Science and Technology, and Professor James Fraser Stoddart, a world leading molecular scientist and Nobel Laureate in chemistry, were honored in 2015 and 2017 respectively.
Kim Baldridge, Vice Dean of the School of Pharmaceutical Science and Technology at Tianjin University and Director of the TJU High Performance Computing Center, was once a professor of the School of Science at the University of Zurich and Director of the San Diego Supercomputer Center. As an expert in computational chemistry, she has devoted herself to research in computer theoretical chemistry, molecular dynamics simulation, supramolecular model and reaction mechanism and received the 2016 Tianjin Haihe Friendship Award. She is also the editor of the famous academic journal Chemical Theory and Computation, and has published more than 220 articles that have been cited over 22,000 times.
In recent years, Tianjin University has been actively introducing high-level overseas talents. As one of the first four international pilot schools in China, the School of Pharmaceutical Science and Technology at TJU hired more than 40 foreign professors and experts from 18 countries and regions, making up more than half of the faculty. In 2017, five Nobel Prize winners were hired by the university.
